Strike it Rich!
Welcome to "Strike it Rich!", an exciting Project Seek class that takes students through the invigorating process of managing a business! Through the next 2 weeks, these 5th, 6th and 7th graders will demonstrate their entrepreneurial techniques and have fun doing it!
Day 4 Decisions, decisions, decisions! Should we keep the Donut Sticks or find a new item?
The kids are working together so well in making plans and figuring out what needs to be changed or stay the same. We are looking forward to our Extended Day on Thursday! Hopefully the weather will cooperate with us as we walk to the Credit Union and the Pizza Pub after. Make sure your student has comfy shoes for walking, wearing their Seek shirt and dress for the weather. Also, $ for lunch or a bagged lunch for home. |
Day 3 A busy day of production!
Stress balls and Slime were the hot items being made and the kids did great! Along with creating items for sale, the students updated their transaction record and for the first day, they were in "The Black!" Pretty exciting to see!! Day 2:Wow! Snack Time looks a whole lot different on the serving side of the counter!
Our young professionals made decisions on what to serve, what to charge and how to present it. They took turns at the cashiering and cleaning up the cafeteria. They found out what kids like to eat and what makes the most profit. All in all it was a fun and exciting first few days of Seek. |

Day 5 The morning was spent between making Slime and making Puppy Chow. Both hot items at the Snack Shop! Great jobs were done by each team! We are so impressed by the confidence and energy that your children have. They haven risen to any challenge we have faced with smiles and creative ideas.
Today, we sorted through the Suggestion box and discussed our Sample Survey results. Apples and Yogurt will be new additions to our snack line-up! Loved the healthy thinking!!
Tomorrow will be a short morning at school before we head off on our Field Trip! Fun ahead!

Day 6 & 7 Lots to catch up on! Our Field Trip to the Credit Union was informative. We learned the difference between a credit union and a bank. See if your student remembers. They were able to get into the vault and go behind the drive-up window. The cute puppy in the car at the window made an impression on them. :) All-in-all it was an educational experience and each student left with a cool "Dollar sign" sucker! $
Lunch at Pizza Pub was awesome! I think Kaj must be the winner of the student who ate the most pizza! Or was it Mrs. Spray and myself? The pizza buffet was delicious! Unfortunately, we were not able to make this a walking field trip due to the rain, but it sure was nice to get back to school nice and dry.
Friday was spent making our somewhat infamous Slime, cool Seek keychains and more of the popular Puppy Chow! What a great group of kids! The Snack Shop was busy and we sold out of a few things, which became part of our late morning discussion, along with decisions to be made on what we going to serve and price for Open House.
We hope the kids are excited for these last days of Seek, as they are seeing the "fruit" of their hard work.

Days 8 & 9 As our final days of Seek are sadly coming quickly, we have been voting on menus for Open House, deciding what to continue to make for our store and how to improve our products. Again, I am impressed with how insightful these kids are. They understand marketing and promotions of product. They are problem solvers, for sure. We also were in the computer lab making a spreadsheet that tallies all of our sales. It was amazing to see how many Slim Jim's we sold!!
Tonites "homework" was to think about how many items we need to buy to serve our food items at Open House. I'm sure they will realize it's not as easy as just picking the menu.
We are fitting in, between our busy days, performances by fellow Seek Classes. It's fun to see what the other classes have been up to.
Our decor on Thursday evening will be Red, White and Blue. We have some cool table decorations and hope your student can wear those colors that evening as well.
Looking forward to meeting many of the parents on Thursday!
